Eunice Alberta Long Goodrich, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Manor Care Health Services, Cedar Rapids. The service in honor of Eunice was held Jan. 11 at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Burial was at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving Eunice are her children: Harold (Shirley) Goodrich of Mount Vernon; Candice (Timothy) Goodrich Kling of Columbia, Mo.; and Reid F. Goodrich, Wood Dale, Ill. Three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister Ruby Jean (Carl) Long Berridge of Solon; nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends, Bill and Sam Elliott.
Eunice was preceded in death by brothers Donald and Darrell Long, her parents, and husband Charles.
Eunice was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Tiffin, the daughter of Eugene Fred Long and Dora Etta Springmire Doane. She graduated from Oxford High School, Oxford, in 1944.
Eunice married Charles Henry Goodrich in Manhattan, Kan., on Aug. 20, 1943. A war bride, she held her first job with Northwestern Bell Telephone in Iowa City. Later after the World War II, they resided in Norway, where she helped Charles with Goodrich Produce, the family business. In 1958, when Charles made a career change as a securities broker, they moved to Mount Vernon. Eunice was a secretary for thirty years including 20 years at Cornell College. In 1980, she became a travel agent. She retired from Plaza Motors at the age of 85.
