First Presbyterian near Ely to hold March 2 celebration
ELY– First Presbyterian Church near Ely has a tradition of celebrating on the Sunday preceding the beginning of Lent. In the past they have celebrated with polka, bluegrass or jazz bands, as well as individual musicians performing during worship.
On Sunday, March 2, the church invites friends and neighbors to celebrate with them, starting with a pancake and sausage breakfast prepared and served by the church youth group from 8 until 9:15 a.m. (free-will donation).
Worship will follow at 9:30 a.m. with guest vocalist and musician, Carol Montag, sharing her music. A well-known area musician, Carol Montag has performed at colleges, coffeehouses, house concerts, churches, music festivals, and live radio and TV shows. She toured the Midwest performing original music with Ballet Iowa in the ‘90s and has recorded four solo albums, as well as two Christmas albums with the trio known as Tribute (Carol, Kathy Donnelly, and Nina Swanson). Carol was honored to sing at the 2010 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
