DeWITT– The Lady Spartan golfers took fifth place at the WaMaC Conference Divisional meet April 30 in DeWitt.
Anamosa took the divisional title with a cumulative score of 201, while the host Central DeWitt Sabers were a close runner-up with a 203 on their home course at the Springbrook Country Club.
Solon’s girls finished with a 223, ahead of Dyersville Beckman (227) and West Delaware (237), but behind Maquoketa (209) and Western Dubuque (215).
Junior Reegan Helle paced the Lady Spartans with a score of 50 over the nine-hole course, with sophomore Elly Schadler (56), senior Heather Vance (58), sophomore Leah Woessner (59), freshman Grace Helle (65) and sophomore Jadyn Jeter (84) supplementing the team total.
Anamosa’s Kara Hunt mad medalist with a blazing 40, while her teammate Hannah Houska was runner-up carding a 45.
Solon had faced Anamosa earlier in the month, hosting the Lady Raiders at Lake MacBride Golf Course April 20.
Houska took medalist honors at that meet with a 45, while Solon’s Reegan Helle was runner-up with a 49.
The Lady Raiders came away with a 202-224 victory.
Woessner provided Solon’s next-best total with a 52, while Schadler (61), Vance (62), Grace Helle (62) and junior Emma Bluder (71) rounded out the scoring.
“I was happy with our team score, it was nine strokes better than our first meet,” Solon Head Coach Curtis Hendrickson said. “We had a lot of girls that are making improvements, now we just got to work on becoming more consistent. We will have a lot of opportunities the next couple weeks to get better.”
The girls’ next chance came hosting South Tama April 26.
Schadler provided the low score for the Lady Spartans this time with a 53, but the Trojans prevailed, 202-224. Vance (56), Reegan Helle (57), Grace Helle (58), Woessner (61) and Bluder (70) helped combine for Solon’s varsity score.
The Lady Spartans are back in action Monday, May 7, at Timberline Golf Course in Peosta for the WaMaC Conference Super Meet, beginning at 4 p.m.
