Hancher presents National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China Oct. 19
IOWA CITY– Since 1950, the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China have toured the world with award-winning acts. The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Englert Theatre.
The acrobats are adept at turning everyday objects– bowls, plates, chairs, and more– into key elements of the performance. They are also masters of contortion, martial arts, dance, and feats of strength.
Hailing from Beijing, the National Acrobats have performed in more than 40 countries. The company stems from the Institution for Acrobatic Schooling, where acrobatic science research has merged with traditional craft, guiding the company toward exciting new work. The Institution for Acrobatic Schooling has become a world renowned acrobatic and circus arts center, and houses more than 150 resident performers, and 500 students.
Over the years Hancher has presented several acrobatic troupes from around the world that have always proven to be a popular choice for families.
The event is supported by the Hancher partners and gifts to Hancher Circle through the UI Foundation.
Tickets are $25-$30; college student, $10-$27; senior citizen, $22.50-$27; youth, $12.50-$15– available from the Hancher Box Office.
