Investigation Ends In Suicide

Suspected burglar takes his life at North Liberty residence

NORTH LIBERTY– A 21-year-old suspect in an Iowa City burglary died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police response to a North Liberty home Sept. 26.
Iowa City and North Liberty police officers went to 60 David Lee Ct. in North Liberty to assist with the investigation of an early-morning burglary in Iowa City, according to information provided by the Iowa City and North Liberty police departments.
Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) officers were dispatched at 12:34 a.m. Sept. 26 to the area of Center Street and Davenport Street in Iowa City for a report of a male who claimed he had just been robbed by people he knew.
The victim said he was struck by one of the suspects with a pistol, and said that a single gunshot was fired. The victim sustained minor injuries from being struck with the pistol. The suspects then reportedly fled the area in a white vehicle. 
As the investigation continued, the ICPD received information that the suspects in the incident were reportedly at a residence in North Liberty. 
At approximately 2:19 a.m., North Liberty officers were requested to check the area of David Lee Court for the suspect vehicle, and located a vehicle fitting the description. Iowa City Police came to the area to investigate and collect evidence.
Officers from the ICPD and the North Liberty Police Department (NLPD) made contact with the residents at around 5:10 a.m.
While speaking to the residents in the entryway, gunshots were heard from inside. Officers were able to get the other individuals inside evacuated. Adjoining condominiums were also evacuated, and the Johnson County Special Emergency Response Team was requested to clear the remainder of the residence.
Deputies cleared the home and located a deceased male inside around 8 a.m. A witness reported that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, and was supported by visual evidence, however, the case will remain open until the autopsy is completed.
Dairion Cortez Bradley, 21, of Cedar Rapids was identified as the deceased individual, according to police reports. ICPD Sgt. Scott Gaarde confirmed Bradley was a suspect in the robbery.
Two juvenile suspects were taken into custody for robbery in the first degree. The juveniles were transported to the Linn County Detention Center without incident. The robbery investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Iowa City and North Liberty Police Departments.
