Irene Elanor Crutchley, 81, of Marion, formerly of Iowa City, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. A funeral service was held Aug. 23 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial was at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty.
Survivors include her brother, Harold of Marion; four nieces, Merna Moore of Marion, Dawn Carter of Toddville, Linda Carter of Tiffin, and Cheri Leaman of Deltona, Florida; five nephews, Ken Crutchley of Marion, Chuck Crutchley of Mount Vernon, Roger Fleming of Amana, Darrell Aler of Cedar Rapids, and Richard Bowman of Douds. Also surviving are many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, and three nieces.
Irene was born Jan. 20, 1933, to Alice (Kessler) and Daniel Crutchley near North Liberty. She attended Alburnett Consolidated School. Irene worked at the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Westinghouse in Iowa City, and the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center. She did volunteer work for the Iowa City Public Library for many years, and was named Volunteer of the Year in April of 2003. Irene was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Memorials may be directed to Linn Manor Care Center, Iowa City Church of the Nazarene, Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids, or the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center in Irene’s memory.
Irene and her family would like to thank the caregivers, residents and their families for all of the loving care and support she received during the past four years that she called Linn Manor Care Center her home.
