James Francis Poggenpohl, 72, of North Liberty, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, July 26, 2014.
Funeral Services were held at Wednesday, July 30, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Rebecca Carver officiating. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the James F. Poggenpohl Memorial Fund has been established.
James was born on Nov. 9, 1941, in Iowa City the son of Charles W. Poggenpohl and Mabel L. (Lewis) Poggenpohl. He was a 1961 graduate of City High School. On Nov. 19, 1966, he married Mary Lu Peterson in Jesup. James joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1966-68. He was a member of the Local 125 Plumbers and Pipefitters for 37 years before retiring in 2003.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years Mary Lu; his two children, Angie Meyer (Jason) of Aurora, Colorado, and Andy (Holly) Poggenpohl, of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Jesicah Pringle, Grayson Poggenpohl, James, Matthew and Natalie Meyer; a brother, Harold Poggenpohl; two sisters, Alice (Herbert) Doud, and Barbara McKercher; and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles L. Poggenpohl.
