NORTH LIBERTY– The North Librty Community Pantry will host its first annual Thanksgiving in July Turkey Trot 5k Race and Family 1 Mile Event on Sunday, July 21, at 8 a.m., in conjunction with the community-wide food drive that provides food assistance to the hungry. This chip-timed race will begin and end at the pantry, 89 N. Jones Blvd., in North Liberty. Advance registration, due by Monday, July 8, is $25, Late registration July 9 through 21 is $35 and a T-shirt is not guaranteed.
All funds raised from the Turkey Trot will benefit the North Liberty Community Pantry and local families every step of the way.
“We look forward to this activity as part of our Thanksgiving in July events,” said pantry director Tina DuBois.
During the first Thanksgiving in July food drive 15 years ago, six tons of food and funds were collected and sent to a local organization. Since then, the food drive has continued to develop and expand. The 2013 food drive donations will benefit food pantries and food relief agencies throughout Johnson County, as well as other areas in Iowa.
The mission of the North Liberty Community Pantry is to “engage our community in feeding and clothing our neighbors.”
