Kenneth James Morlan
Kenneth James Morlan, 69, of Oxford, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by his family.
Both the visitation and service were held at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, with visitation Tuesday, Sept. 15, and service Sept. 16 with Pastor Beverly Marshall-Goodell officiating. A luncheon in the church fellowship hall followed the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kenneth J. Morlan Memorial Fund.
Ken was born Sept. 18, 1939, near Udell. He served proudly in the Air Force from 1959 to 1963. Ken married his best friend, Twyla Hammes, on July 18, 1967. Ken and Twyla celebrated their 42nd anniversary this year. Ken worked at Wayne Feeds in Coralville for 29 years and Clear Creek Amana Middle School for six-and-a-half years.
Ken is survived by his wife Twyla and their three sons, Larry (Brenda) Morlan of Omaha, Neb., Bob (Sara) Morlan and Andy (Darlene) Morlan of Oxford; his seven grandchildren, Emily, Kassie, Mitchell, Cameron, Seth, Tommy and Tyler; and one brother, Jerry (Sandy) Morlan of North Liberty.
Ken enjoyed woodworking and was a staple at the Iowa City Farmers Market for many years, where his barn board crafts were well known. He was fond of deer hunting, fishing, hot rods, playing poker, hunting mushrooms and telling his favorite stories about all of those activities. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he spent much time laughing with them and loved every minute.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis.
