Lura Janette Winterowd, 88, of Cedar Rapids died peacefully Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Living Center West. Services were held March 7, at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. C.W. Slaton of the Cowboy Church. Burial was at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Lura is survived by two sons Darrell (Sandy) of Ely and Dean of Cedar Rapids; three daughters Janice (Wally) Hootman of Cedar Rapids, Louise (Steve) Smola of Central City, and Elisabeth (James) Lukefahr of Newton; grandchildren Tammy Ryan, Terry (Audra) Hootman, Tracy (Yvonne) Ryan, Theresa (Larry) Harder, Greg (Heidi) Winterowd, Jennifer (Mark) Wilson, and Tom (Shawn) Hootman; numerous great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George; three sisters Loraine Secore, Berniece Young, and Maxine Good; a daughter-in-law Linda Winterowd; and a grandson Tyson Hootman.
Lura, the last of the four Davis girls from Brandon, was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Brandon, the daughter of Paul and Minnie (Ridings) Davis. She married George Albert Winterowd on April 6, 1942. He died in 1980. Lura retired as an inspector after 30 years with Rockwell Collins.
