Moore’s 34 points carry CCA to win

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys improved to 8-11 with a non-conference win Thursday, Feb. 8, at home, against West Branch. The Clippers beat the Bears, 83-79, with a 34-point effort from senior Darius Moore.
The Creek Boys held a slim lead throughout the contest, winning the first period, 24-23, and holding a 38-36 halftime advantage.
Jordan Wolfe contributed 15 points, while Tyler Schrepfer had a 10-point night for the Clippers. Nick O’Connor led the squad in rebounds with seven, while Moore made five assists.
The Bears dipped to 12-9.
The Clippers open the postseason Monday, Feb. 19, at South Tama, facing Independence in a Class 3A Substate 3 quarterfinal game at 6:30 p.m. The winner takes on either South Tama or Vinton-Shellsburg Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., at South Tama High School. The substate final is set for Monday, Feb. 26, at the U.S. Cellular Center, in Cedar Rapids, at 8 p.m. Cedar Rapids Xavier, Grinnell, Benton Community and Center Point-Urbana make up the top half of the Substate 3 bracket.
