More Apples, more cash, more space

OXFORD— The Board of Directors of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) School District met in their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, June 20, in the Clear Creek Elementary library in Oxford. Superintendent Dr. Denise Schares reported the district had received a check for $1,988 from Hills Bank and Trust as part of the bank’s Classroom Cash program. Customers of the bank can sign-up to have a portion of purchases made with a Hills Bank debit card donated to the school district of their choice. Since 2004, the district has received over $23,000 from the program, money which is distributed throughout the buildings.
Middle School Principal Brad Fox reported the annual CCA Foundation Golf Tournament, held Friday, June 15, at the Amana Colonies Golf Course was a resounding success with approximately $10,000 raised and 71 players. Among the many corporate donators were Whirlpool Corporation, Shive-Hattery, Hills Bank and Trust and Amana Family Practice.
A public hearing regarding a three-year lease agreement between the district and Apple Financial Services for computers was held, with nobody present to speak for or against the appropriation. The board allocated funds for the computers in the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) in the amount of $75,000. Under the agreement the district will acquire one MacBook Pro 17-inch laptop, 176 Mini Display Port to VGA Adapters and 200 MacBook Pro 13.3-inch laptops in 40 five-packs. The agreement is for $73,850, and at the end of three years the district will own the devices.
The expansion project at North Bend Elementary (NBE) in North Liberty is right on schedule according to Keith Johnk of Shive-Hattery. Johnk told the board the process is on track for a mid-July bid letting, and he has already fielded calls from Iowa City area contractors looking for work. A minor design change is being implemented after Johnk met with NBE Principal Brenda Parker, who asked for a shower for students. Johnk called it a minor change and said there was more than enough reserve in the project budget to accommodate it. Also, preliminary plans have been submitted to the State Fire Marshall for review, and Johnk had a plan review scheduled with the City of North Liberty. “We’re looking very good,” Johnk said.
The July meeting is planned to be a brief conference call with the board members.
