More joy, less stress

NORTH LIBERTY– Last year, Julie and Ben Tweedt’s wedding went off with just one hitch, but they said if they’d had a wedding coordinator, it would’ve been smoother.
“Even an expert needs help,” Ben said.
So when they were putting their heads together to create a small business earlier this year, they didn’t have to go far to find something that would work for both of them.
Growing up with older siblings, Julie has been helping the bride and groom on the biggest day of their lives since she was a little girl.
Now, it’s a family business for Ben and Julie in their new business, Tweedt Weddings.
Julie has also been working as the wedding coordinator at Parkview Church for a few years and said her favorite part is bringing comfort and expertise to the wedding party and guests.
Their new venture is based on a mission of bringing, “less stress and more joy,” she said. And the main component of the duo’s strength is their teamwork on the big day, working for the bride, groom, and mother of the bride.
Julie provides two one-on-one consultations plus unlimited email and phone contact for brides as part of a basic Silver Package; more consultation time is offered in the advanced packages, or sessions can be purchased from an a la carte menu of wedding planning services. (A full list of Tweedt planning services can be found at the website: www.tweedtweddings.com.)
Ben admits he plays a background role in the company, working on the website, keeping the books and marketing the business. But on the big day, he’s ready to help out with the last-minute changes at the church or reception, from fixing flowers to finding more ice. They also expand their two-person team for larger affairs.
The young couple met at Parkview Church, when Ben was volunteering with the junior high youth group. He’s a history and literature middle school teacher at Heritage Christian and she’s the youth group coordinator at Parkview. They regularly host church youth group nights at their place to watch movies and hang out with their crew.
Julie’s motivation behind Tweedt Weddings is to share the load so relationships don’t suffer on the day of the wedding, especially between the bride and mother of the bride who usually take on the brunt of wedding planning and management.
She likes to help people have a great, stress-free, enjoyable day.
Julie worked in a bridal shop for a couple years and through the wedding coordination experience at her church, plus helping friends and family, she’s planned a lot of weddings.
“(A good wedding can) set a foundation for a great marriage by starting on the right foot, without family strife,” Julie said.
The biggest challenge for brides-to-be?
“Budgeting is a hard part, especially for a specific vision,” she said.
To understand a bride’s vision of perfection, Julie asks lots of questions about the bride’s dream of her special day. She also does a lot of listening to determine what will make the event complete, then likes to suggest little details that perhaps the bride hadn’t planned yet.
Tweedt Weddings will assess the wedding party’s needs and then meet them, but not force anything.
“A lot of brides have planned so many details but they just need some help filling in gaps,” and that’s where Julie comes in, gently offering ideas and options that many brides hadn’t thought about.
She will assist with lining up the band or DJ; finding a reception hall, vendors, and hotels; designing the cake; tracking RSVPs; arranging seating charts and more.
They can set up slide shows to play during the reception and help with bridal showers and rehearsal dinners. Tweedt Weddings can handle everything down to fluffing up the flower arrangements before the happy couple walks down the aisle.
Tweedt Weddings help make the big day a little smoother, a little less hectic for the people who should be enjoying themselves. That can get newlyweds on their honeymoons easily, and families can get back to normal faster too.
After all, who wants to sweat all the details on their wedding day?
“Less stress and more joy” makes for a happy couple starting off their marriage right.
