More new books to beat the heat

“The Bride’s House” by New York Times bestselling author Sandra Dallas is a historical fiction set in the year 1880. Three generations of women have lived in the same Victorian home, called the Bride’s House. The house hides secrets of the three proud, strong and willful women, Nealie, Pearl and Susan.
The library has added two Iris Johansen novels, “Quinn” and “Chasing The Night.” “Chasing The Night” involves a CIA agent’s two-year-old child that was stolen in the night. Catherine Ling needs to find someone as driven and obsessed as she is to help her. Enter Eve Duncan, who shares Catherine’s nightmare. The killer is still out there and taunting Eve and Catherine at every turn. Follow this thrilling, gut-wrenching journey into the darkest places of the soul.
The latest action packed, adrenaline filled novel penned by Iris Johansen is ”Quinn.” Former Navy SEAL Joe Quinn first met Eve Duncan to help her bring home her missing daughter and discover the truth behind her disappearance no matter how devastating. Emotionally charged, with one shock after another, Joe and Eve search deeper and deeper into a web of murder and madness as they resolve to uncover the bone-chilling truth.
For the Barbara Delinsky followers– her latest novel, “Escape,” explores every woman’s desire to abandon the endless obligations of work and marriage. She has a nice twist on a familiar plot with thirty-year-old idealist Emily Aulenbach. Acting on impulse, Emily leaves work early one day and takes off to a location where she has spent one summer as a college student to try and right her life.
Another great lady’s summer read is Jojo Moyes’ “The Last Letter From Your Lover,” a sophisticated, page-turning love story spanning forty years. Described as a “spellbinding, intoxicating love story with a knockout ending,” readers will become spellbound following journalist Ellie as she tries to uncover the writer of a forgotten letter.
“Once Upon A River” by Bonnie Campbell is a finalist from the National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award. A runaway teenager on Michigan’s waterways gives us Margo, who takes to the Stark River after the violent death of her father in search of her vanished mother. The river is a dangerous place for a young woman. Bonnie Campbell gives us a glorious novel destined to entrance and provoke.
With tenderness and laugh-out-loud humor Jennifer Weiner takes readers into the heart of women’s lives in another summer read, titled “Then Came You.” Three women, friendships, failed pregnancy, donor eggs and surrogacy are all issues in this twenty-first century story on motherhood and family.
One of Amazon’s “Best Books of the Month” for July is “Adrenaline,” by Jeff Abbott. A thriller from the beginning, CIA agent Sam Capra’s office is bombed by terrorists and his pregnant wife, Lucy has been kidnapped. All of Sam’s colleagues are dead, his wife is gone and we’re only on page 12! The title certainly holds true– as this book is full of action and intrigue at a pace that will have you skipping lunch and devouring just one more page!
