New leadership for Women of Troy on the tennis court

IOWA CITY– Rich Redfern has taken charge of the Iowa City West High girl’s tennis team for the 2012 season. Redfern inherits a squad that went 13-0 in the MVC and 20-1 overall last year, and will be assisted by Erika Mundt.
In 2011, the squad was the runner-up in Class 2A state team competition while Lola White-Baer and Lilli Oetting placed second in doubles. White-Baer earned the MVC valley division’s women’s tennis athlete of the year title. Additionally, Oetting, White-Baer and Olivia Lofgren were selected for MVC first team all-conference honors. Addy Riley and Elena Wilson were selected for the second team while Ashlin Riley earned all-conference honorable mention.
Lofgren, a senior, is back for 2012 along with juniors Wilson and Riley. Freshmen Megan Jans and Brittani Langland are new to the team this year.
“I expect our team to be a strong presence in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC),” Redfern said. “We have solid upperclassmen who have a chance to really do something special as well as some underclassmen that I expect to make a strong impact.”
Redfern sees the MVC, as usual, strong from top to bottom and expects great competition at just about every meet.
“We’re looking forward to every meet, that said, the meet against City High is always something to get psyched up for,” He said.
