Oct. 25 dodge ball tournament, silent auction to benefit local one-year-old fighting cancer

NORTH LIBERTY – On Oct. 25, Team Avery will host a fundraiser to benefit one-year-old Avery Flick of North Liberty, who is battling a rare form of musculoskeletal cancer. The event, to be held at North Central Junior High School in North Liberty, will include a dodge ball tournament, silent auction and bake sale.
All proceeds will go directly to the Flick family– Justin, Heidi, Payton and Avery– to help with medical and living expenses during Avery’s year-long treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
To register for the all-ages dodge ball tournament, visit http://averyflick.eventbrite.com. Teams must have at least six players but no more than 10. Registration is $20 per player and closes Oct. 22.
The silent auction will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature a vacation package; personalized autographed items from Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery and Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz, as well as Iowa State coaches Paul Rhoads and Fred Hoiberg; Hawkeye football and basketball tickets; artwork; gift cards to area businesses; and items from Pampered Chef, Thirty-One, AdvoCare and more. Those interested in donating an item for auction can contact TeamAveryFlick@gmail.com. A bake sale will accompany the auction.
“Since Avery received her diagnosis just a few weeks ago– just three days after her first birthday and on her mom’s birthday, no less– we’ve been touched by so many people looking for a way to help,” said Jessie Brown, a family friend organizing the event. “We’re hoping for an outstanding turnout for the dodge ball tourney and silent auction to show the Flicks the support they have behind them and to raise funds so they can put their focus where it’s most important– getting Avery healthy.”
The event is open to the public, and there is no admission charge for the auction or bake sale. Details are available at www.facebook.com/events/1491126024498008.
“Team Avery” T-shirts are available for $10 and “Pray for Avery” bracelets are available for $5 through the registration site at http://averyflick.eventbrite.com or by emailing TeamAveryFlick@gmail.com.
Donations can also be made to the family at any Veridian Credit Union by mentioning the Avery Flick Benefit Fund, or online at https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/rry5/avery-cancer-treatment-fundr....
