Ottumwa superintendent selected to lead Solon

Two finalists interviewed by community

SOLON– Solon’s next superintendent of schools will be Dr. Davis Eidahl.
Eidahl, 44, the current superintendent for the Ottumwa Community School District, was selected by Solon school board members at a special morning meeting Friday, May 22.
He will replace Sam Miller, who has served as head of the Solon school district since 2010. In April, Miller announced he had accepted a position as chief administrator at Area Education Agency (AEA) 267 in Cedar Falls.
Eidahl was one of two finalists for the position. The other was Dr. Anthony Voss, currently the superintendent of the Hudson Community Schools, and both spent the entire day in interviews with a variety of groups Thursday, May 21, in advance of the decision Friday.
Eidahl is a native of Richland and a graduate of the Pekin school system. He was an education major at Coe College and received his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Drake University in 2011. Eidahl has been the superintendent at Ottumwa for four years, but also previously served that district as associate superintendent as well as middle school and elementary principal.
Prior to that, he served alongside Sam Miller as a principal in the Davis County Community School District.
“We are excited to have such an extraordinary leader joining the district,” school board vice president Rick Jedlicka said in a press release. “The Board is confident that Dr. Eidahl will help our district continue to grow and excel.”
