Paperless system earns North Liberty program of the year award

NORTH LIBERTY– At last week’s Iowa City/County Management Association (IaCMA) summer conference, the City of North Liberty received the program of the year award for being one of the first in the state to eliminate hard copy packets for council and commissions; this program is officially titled North Liberty forges paperless future through iPads. This program was introduced in 2011 and is estimated to have already saved North Liberty over $10,000.
The city has since received dozens of calls from other municipalities, as well as county and state governments, school districts, and nonprofits seeking advice on how to make the transition to paper-free meetings.
According to the IaCMA, “the award honors creative contributions to professional local government management and increases public awareness of the value of professional management to the quality of life in our communities. The Program of the Year Award is presented to a local government and its chief administrator in recognition of an innovative and successful program.” The IaCMA Program of the Year Award was started in 2006 with selection criteria including scope, quality, value and creativity.
