Parade at the Promenade

NORTH LIBERTY– What better place to host a parade than North Liberty’s only official promenade?
Stonebridge Promenade, home of Blink Vision and several other commercial enterprises, was the setting for the fourth annual Halloween parade Oct. 30. Children from Montessori Children’s Garden in North Liberty were invited to don their costumes and trick-or-treat at each businesses’ storefront, and walk through the not-too-scary haunted hallway decorated by Intelec’s Scott Shephard.
Employees at Blink Vision by Veatch, Bluebird Café, Mail Print & More, Great Clips Salon, Clark Orthodontics and Kinze Manufacturing also got in the Halloween spirit, many of whom dressed up in costume to greet the kids.
Blink Vision’s Kim Williams has organized the parade each year, wanting to keep the tradition alive after the vision care center moved from a temporary location in Coralville, where it also hosted a trick-or-treat event, to the new North Liberty facility in 2012.
“Seeing all the little kids in their costumes and seeing their little smiles when you put something in their treat bag,” is what Williams said she enjoys the most. “We get amazing feedback and a lot of appreciation from the parents for all that goes into the event.”
Montessori Children’s Garden director Jane Jones said the children and families look forward to the annual parade.
“It’s a nice easy walk under the bridge and the businesses are so kind to dress up and hand out candy,” said Jones. “It’s a perfect opportunity for the children to go out in the wider community. Blink Vision especially does a wonderful job of organizing the event each year and creating a spooky room that the children really enjoy.”
