Patricia Bretz

Patricia Francis Bretz was born Mar. 20, 1922, on a farm west of Delhi, the daughter of Thomas and Francis Oehler Doyle. She attended Hazel Green Country School and graduated from Delhi High School with the class of 1939. In 1942, she graduated from Mount Mercy Junior College. Pat was an Administrative Secretary at Craemers Department Store and later at Collins Radio.
Pat was married to Robert Bretz on June 10, 1950, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti. They bought their first farm south of Monti where they raised two girls and seven boys. Bob died on Mar. 2, 2003. In later years, Pat enjoyed visiting the farm and the Monti community.
Pat instilled integrity and a strong work ethic in her children. She was a wonderful mother and a gracious lady with unswerving courage. She was an inspiration to all her family and friends. She will forever be missed by her family and friends. Patricia F. Bretz, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; daughter, Sheri; son, Philip; sisters, Denise Singer and Germaine Ford and brother, James.
Surviving is her daughter, Connie LaBarge of Marion; her six sons: Dave (Katie) of Des Moines; Dick (Trish) of Corpus Christi, Texas; Lyle (Merri) of Ames; Lynn (Mary Anne) of Visalia, Calif.; Marc (Rachelle) of Solon; and Mike (Lisa) of North Liberty; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her brother, Tom (Marlene) Doyle of Hazleton; son-in-law, Jon (Roberta) McCright of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti with burial in the Church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
