Quilt on display
Stop by the library for a look at the quilt to be raffled off by the Solon Beef Days Committee. The quilt, made by Marianne Klouda, is made from past Beef Days T-shirts. It’s fun to look at and will take you down memory lane with a bit of Beef Days history.
Solon Book Club June meeting
The June meeting of the Solon Book Club will be member’s choice. Each may read a biography or autobiography of their choice and share a synopsis with the group. The last meeting before summer hiatus will be Tuesday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. so there’s plenty of time to pick a biography. After a break for the summer, the Solon Area Book Club will resume in September.
Adult non-fiction – new additions
Fourth on the New York Times best seller list is “In The Garden of Beasts” by Erik Larson. This portrait of Berlin during the rise of the Nazis centers on William E. Dodd, who became U.S. ambassador there in 1933 and his daughter, Martha.
David McCullough’s “The Greater Journey– Americans In Paris” is, until now, the untold story of adventurous Americans of high aspiration who set off for Paris between 1830 and 1900, ambitious to excel in their work.
“The Last Gunfight – The Real Story of the Shootout at the O.K. Corral – And How It Changed the American West” by Jeff Guinn is a highly researched account of the famous gunfight as it really happened. The real story is far different from what we’ve been led to believe by TV Westerns. Author Guinn gives us a different and far more fascinating picture of what the West was like and who Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and others really were.
