TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity baseball team split a doubleheader Thursday, June 5, at home with the Blue Raiders of Anamosa, and picked up their first loss of the season.
The Clippers took care of business in game one with a 6-2 win fueled in part by a four-run effort in the fourth inning off of a pair of singles. A Chase Rourke RBI homer in the sixth sealed the win. Anamosa scored one run in the third and one in the fifth.
Nile Rourke and Jake Neubauer had two hits each, Bryan Kalkhoff and Cody Wagner each had a double, and Travis Bowman, Neubauer and Rourke were credited with RBIs. Nile Rourke took the win with six innings of pitching, giving up five hits, two earned runs, walking four and striking out five. Robby Swails threw one inning, giving up no hits, no runs, walking none and retiring none.
The Raiders retaliated in the nightcap with a 6-4 win over the Clippers, despite CCA out-hitting Anamosa eight to five. Neubauer led the offense for CCA batting 3-4 with singles in the third, fourth and sixth innings and scoring two runs. Anamosa took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and added two more in the third. The Clippers put up two of their own, also in the third, and tied the game 3-3 in the fourth. A three-run effort by Anamosa in the fifth deepened the hole for the Clippers, who mustered only one more run in the sixth.
The loss moved Brent Henry’s crew to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the WaMaC.
Stephen Jensen knocked out an RBI double while Rourke and Tanner Bandy were also credited with one RBI each. Bowman took the loss for CCA with six innings on the mound. He gave up five hits, six runs (four earned), walked two and struck out two. Swails again threw for one inning, striking out one batter.
