Rebel Xtreme teams win international contests
Special to the North Liberty Leader
NORTH LIBERTY– Congratulations to the Rebel Xtreme Competitive Cheer Teams from North Liberty for two successful international competitions and being selected to star in Cheerhab, a new TV Show being filmed for Awesomeness TV.
The Rebel Xtreme cheer teams are comprised of athletes from North Liberty, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Clear Creek Amana, Solon and the Quad Cities. These athletes traveled to two different international competitions this spring. The first was in Orlando, Fla., to compete at the UCA International All Star Cheerleading Championships.
Rebel Xtreme’s Senior Team AirBorne dominated their division and came home as the 2014 UCA International Champions. They also received the rare and sought-after Summit Bid, in which the top 10 percent of teams from the nation are invited to meet and go head-to-head to see which is the best.
Rebel Xtreme’s Youth Team StrikeForce placed fourth at the UCA International Championships going against teams from the U.S., Cuba and Brazil. There was only a half-point spread between the top four teams in this division.

In April, the Rebel Xtreme family traveled to the Xtreme Spirit’s International Championships in Chicago. The mini-level 2 team BlackOps beat several other teams and were crowned international champions. Rebel Xtreme is one of two gyms in the state of Iowa to have a mini team at this level. For a small gym to have their 5- to 7-year-old participants competing at this level and winning on the International stage is very impressive, said Rebel Xtreme director and coach Shauna Wood Holm
Rebel Xtreme’s Senior Team AirBorne won their division again at the Xtreme Spirit International Championships and came home with their second international champion title for the month.
Rebel Xtreme’s Youth Team StrikeForce placed second at the competition.
Ella Gibson also competed with an individual junior cheer solo. Gibson went up against all levels of Junior athletes and was crowned the junior international champion.
In addition to these talented athletes winning multiple international titles this season, they have also been asked to be featured in a new TV series, “Cheerhab” for Awesomeness TV starting this month. “Cheerhab” stars Eddie Rios and Orby Orta, coaches of the famous SMOED team from the California All Stars, and the Rebel Xtreme athletes training under them. Tune in weekly to see Eddie and Orby come to Iowa and work with the Rebel Xtreme athletes throughout next season.
The Rebel Xtreme Coaching staff is extremely proud of all their cheer teams’ accomplishments this season. “We were the only small Iowa gym to put a no-tryout team on a international floor this season,” said Wood Holm. “We are also the only gym in Iowa asked to be featured in a TV show about cheerleaders.
“We believe that if an individual has the desire to cheer or tumble we will be able to train them,no matter what their level,” said Wood Holm, who is a 12-time national and international champion, and championship title coach and choreographer.
