Richard “Dick” Worrell, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Grinnell Regional Hospital in Grinnell. Funeral Mass was Oct. 7 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. David Beckman and the Rev. Gerald Condon officiated. Burial was in Czech National Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Worrell; his siblings, Ronald (Donna) Worrell of Solon, Arlene Jennings of Cedar Rapids, Darlene Griffith of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Bev) Worrell of Solon, Rose (Terry) Michel of Oxford and Linda (Kevin) Manary of Solon; and his sisters-in-law, Darlene Breja of Belle Plaine, Marilyn Coover of Belle Plaine and Jeanette (Wes) Sebetka of Malcom.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Worrell; brothers-in-law, James Jennings, Thomas Griffith, Joey Breja and Sheldon Coover; and parents-in-law, John and Elsie Koutney.
Dick was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Solon, the son of George and Minnie (Petersen) Worrell. He married Betty Koutney on June 25, 1957, in Chelsea. Dick was a sheet metal worker and shop foreman for Local 263.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, VFW and the Elks Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and making homemade wine. Dick and Betty also loved to dance and travel. Dick was an Army veteran and served during the Korean War.
