Robert “Bob” Wheeler, 86, of Solon, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A family and friends gathering was held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services with Military Honors were held at the Morse Cemetery. Robert Charles Wheeler was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Iowa City the son of Charles and Hattie (Clouse) Wheeler. During WWII he served his country in the United States Army. Bob spent many of his working years in the plumbing profession, beginning at the Veterans Administration, and later at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Upon retirement, he continued to do odd jobs for family and friends and enjoyed being able to help, and share one of his many stories. He lived at the senior housing in Solon, here he was the official for everything, from plumbing needs, grocery runs, taxi service or that friend to talk to. Bob loved living there.
His family includes a sister, Melva Norton of Salina, Kan.; sister-in-law, Marcella Wheeler of Iowa City and numerous nieces and nephews.
