Scouting for Food pick-up will be Oct. 24

NORTH LIBERTY– Scouting for Food is a yearly event supported by local Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs in the community. North Liberty Boy Scouts from Troop 216 and Cub Scouts from North Bend Pack 279, Garner and Van Allen Pack 275, and Penn Pack 216 began distribution of Scouting for Food Bags throughout North Liberty on Oct. 17.
All food collected in North Liberty will be taken to the North Liberty Community Pantry at 89 N. Jones Blvd. All bags will be picked up on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 8 a.m., so please have your bags outside your front doors in a visible location by 8 a.m. If you would like to help by donating more non-perishable foods or toiletries than will fit in one bag, feel free to use any other plastic bags you have at home and leave them outside your front door, in a visible location, by 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The North Liberty Community Pantry serves about 200 families per week and distributes about 34 pounds of food and toiletries to each family per visit in order to decrease the stress of families with limited resources.
Last year, the Scouting for Food drive in North Liberty collected over 5,263 pounds of food; the most since 2007 for the North Liberty Community Pantry in this drive. The scouts hope to collect more this year and would like to thank you for helping your friends and neighbors in North Liberty.
If you do not receive a bag from the Scouts but would still like to help, or if your bag is missed on pick up day, donations can be dropped off directly at the North Liberty Community Pantry or at the First United Methodist Church of North Liberty at the same address. The North Liberty Community Pantry can be reached at 319-626-2711.
