Liberty High’s show choirs put on an afternoon extravaganza
Members of Liberty High’s show choirs give a standing ovation as North Central Junior High’s New Connections concludes its set during Liberty’s Spring Showcase event Saturday, Feb. 22, at Liberty High.

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High School’s show and jazz choirs brought down the curtain on a successful 2019-2020 season with a Spring Showcase concert featuring vocal groups Spark, Amplify, Voltage, Impact and Storm Saturday, Feb. 22, at Liberty High. Interspersed among the groups were three teasers for the upcoming spring musical “Shrek” as Agustin Colon-Sanchez (Donkey), Posey Stoeffler (Fiona) and Scott Dill (Shrek) performed solos from the show. North Central Junior High’s New Connections show choir also performed a set.
Liberty’s vocal groups also celebrated recent show/jazz choir competition successes including Storm taking First Place in Class 4A and winning its first overall Grand Champion trophy Saturday, Feb. 15, at the North Polk High School Comet Sensational event. Voltage was awarded first place, Amplify was second at the event while Spark placed fourth. Dill was awarded “Best Male Soloist” for his performance with Voltage on “Here’s to Life.” In addition, Impact took first place in the Prep Division while Katey Halverson won an Outstanding Soloist award for her performance with Storm in the ballad “With You.”
On Friday, Feb. 21, Spark, Amplify and Voltage performed in Solon’s Vocal Jazz Invitational where Tatum Calderwood and Dill were awarded “Best Female Soloist” and “Best Male Soloist” in Class 4A. Voltage received the Class 4A first place trophy as well.
