Senior Night success for the Creek Boys

Withrow puts up 26 points, Schrepfer sinks five three-pointers in 85-66 win over West Delaware
Christian Withrow goes up for two of his team-high 26 points against West Delaware Friday, Feb. 12, at home on Senior Night. Withrow, a senior, surpassed the 1,000-point mark earlier in the week against Western Dubuque.

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School recognized 16 seniors (five varsity girls and 11 varsity boys) Friday, Feb. 12, during a girl-boy varsity doubleheader against West Delaware Friday, Feb. 12, and celebrated a 46-39 win for the girls, and an 85-66 win for the boys.
Christian Withrow opened for the Clippers with a two-point basket to offset an early 5-0 deficit. The Hawks took the first period 16-15, although Withrow had six points on his way to a team-high 26. Brock “B-Rock” Reade, Kyle Schrepfer and Mike Potter also contributed points in the quarter. The hole got deeper for the Clippers in the second as the Hawks pulled farther ahead, going up 31-22 with a trio of three-pointers and a seven-point run before the Creek Boys could mount a six-point counter-attack driven by Potter and Ben Swails. A fourth three-pointer made it 34-28 for West Delaware, and Schrepfer’s first of five three-pointers struck gold late in the period to cut the deficit to 37-33 in favor of the visitors at the halftime break.
Schrepfer bombed the Hawks in the third period with a trio of three-pointers while a three from Withrow tied the game at 49-49. Moments of sheer chaos dominated the later part of the quarter during which Schrepfer drained his fifth three-point bucket, Potter dropped in a two-pointer for a 61-60 lead, and B-Rock made it 63-60 with 14.2 seconds left in the period.
CCA’s lead grew to 85-66 with just over a minute remaining, and coach Brandon Clubb elected to give more seniors some floor time as Mason Slaymaker, Quinn Karstens, TJ Hansen, Ryan Detert and Taylor Christensen entered the game.
In addition to Withrow’s 26 points, Schrepfer had a 23-point night and Potter contributed 16. West Delaware’s Kyle Kelley led all with 34 points.
The win improved CCA to 15-5 overall and 14-2 in the WaMaC ahead of the final two games of the regular season (Monday, Feb. 15, and Tuesday, Feb. 16). The postseason begins on Monday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. as Grinnell visits in a Class 3A Substate 6 quarterfinal contest. The winner advances to face either Washington or Oskaloosa on Thursday, Feb. 25, in Washington for the semifinal with the substate championship on Monday, March 1, at a site to be determined.
The 2021 Boys State Basketball Tournament is scheduled for Monday, March 8, through Friday, March 12, at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
