Senior night sweep for West v. Cedar Falls, 7-2, 11-3

IOWA CITY– West High paid tribute to 10 seniors Friday night and in return were treated to 18 Trojan runs and a pair of wins in a varsity doubleheader.
Tom Harder, Andy Jones, Jacob Schmitt, Jay Slocum, Andy Topping, Nick Grimsman, Kellen Yoder, Ryan Aller, Luke Crimmins and Ryan Siems were honored between the games against the visiting Tigers of Cedar Falls.
The Tigers drew first blood with one run in the top of the first inning of game one, the Trojans answered with two in their half of the inning. Five Trojan runs went on the board in the fourth, and one Tiger scored in the top of the sixth for the 7-2 final.
Siems and Aller both had a pair of singles and two RBIs apiece while Jones hit a double. Grimsman, Sam Scott, Topping and Tyus Adkins all had singles. Crimmins went the distance on the mound throwing 72 pitches with three strikeouts and one walk. Crimmins gave up six hits and two earned runs.
For Cedar Falls: 2 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, 3 left on base.
For West: 7 runs, 11 hits, 1 error, 6 left on base.
The Trojans opened the nightcap with one run each in the bottom of the first and second innings and held the Tigers at bay until the top of the fifth when Cedar Falls got one run on the scoreboard. West then unleashed a four-run barrage. Two Tiger runs in the sixth were answered with a quintuple of West runs. A scoreless seventh for Cedar Falls sealed the deal, 11-3.
Reid Bonner was master of the long ball with a triple and a homer in the campaign. Bonner also had a single and three RBIs. Declan Doyle had two singles while Ezra Reiners, Siems, Aller, Adkins and Schmidt had one base hit apiece.
Yoder, Sam Searls and Adkins shared the mound with five innings for Yoder, and one each for Searls and Adkins. Yoder threw 75 pitches striking out five and walking three. He gave up three hits and one unearned run. Searls threw 33 pitches with a pair of K’s and three walks. Two hits and two earned runs were charged to Searls. Adkins threw 16 pitches, striking out three and giving up no hits and no runs.
For Cedar Falls: 3 runs, 4 hits, 6 errors, 4 left on base.
For West: 11 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors, 8 left on base.
The Trojans improved their record to 30-8 overall.
