Several Spartans named to Your Prep Sports All-Decade Football Team

Coons, Bock, Linderbaum brothers, Ferguson, Flansburg and Koehn receive recognition

IOWA CITY– YourPrepSports.com released its All-Decade Football Team, in an article posted by Ryan Murken on Sunday, Dec. 29, and several Solon Spartan football players made the cut.
Among those named to the Your Prep Sports All-Decade Offense were quarterbacks Drew Cook from Regina and Evan Flitz from West High. Running backs included Ronald Thompson, City High; Xavier Washpun, City High; and Luke Lenoch, West Branch. Wide receivers included Oliver Martin, West High; Jason Jones, City High; Alec Wick, Regina; Jalen Gaudet, West High; and current Solon Spartan senior A.J. Coons. Clear Creek Amana’s T.J. Bollers was selected All-Decade at tight end. Offensive All-Decade Linemen included Phil Arendt, Regina; Dan Micnchk, City High; Zach Ries, Regina; and Solon Spartan alums Dalton Ferguson and Logan Linderbaum. Solon’s own Marshall Koehn was named the All-Decade Kicker.
Coons made the All-Decade Offense at Wide Receiver for his ability to become a mismatch due to his 6-foot-4 stature, earning him an average of better than 17 yards per reception during his three-year career at Solon, pulling in 131 catches for 2,328 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Ferguson was named to the All-Decade Offensive Line for his three-years as a starter and for his tenure as a two-time captain. He earned First-Team All-State honors in 2013, helping lead the team to an 11-2 record including a state semifinal appearance.
Logan Linderbaum was recognized for being a fierce, “two-way standout” earning All-State honors in back-to-back seasons that yielded a total of 20 wins and four losses in 2013 and 2014.
Koehn earned his recognition for being a “tremendous all-around athlete,” while earning First-Team All-State honors as a kicker in 2010, connecting 13-18 on field goals with his longest a 49-yarder and a 55 percent touchback percentage.
Three more Spartans found their way on the Your Prep Sports All-Decade Defense. Those receiving All-Decade recognition as Defensive Linemen included Amos Lovela, City High; Landon Green, West High; Jared Brinkman, Regina; Jeff Bowie, West Branch; and Solon Spartan Tyler Linderbaum. Linebackers selected included Jacob Vallsedt, Regina; Dillon Doyle, West High; Justin Hunter, Regina; Jake Brinkman, Regina; and Solon Spartans Adam Bock and Coal Flansburg. Defensive backs on the All-Decade defense included Jeremy Johnson, City High; Bo Bower, West Branch; Naeem Smith, City High; and Cale Mabry and John Malani, both from West High. The All-Decade Punter was Jake Leahr from City High.
Tyler Linderbaum’s recognition came courtesy of his two-time First-Team All-State selection as an offensive lineman and his current tenure as center for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was credited for being “practically immovable” as a prep sports defensive tackle when amassing 104.5 tackles as a Spartan, including 16 for loss and eight sacks to his credit.
Bock’s abilities as a “versatile defender” and for leading Solon in tackles in two consecutive seasons were cited as reasons for his All-Decade recognition. He earned First-Team All-State honors in 2018 and racked up 146 tackles while scoring four defensive touchdowns.
Flansburg’s “imposing presence” in the center of the defensive line for Solon, along with 88.5 tackles and three pass interceptions in his last two prep seasons, earned him his All-Decade laurels.
