SHS students place at Future Business Leaders Conference

CORALVILLE– Four students from Solon High School attended the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference in Coralville on March 31-April 2. There were over 900 students from across the state in attendance.
FBLA is the largest business career student organization in the world, with nearly a quarter-million students in 6,000 chartered high school and college chapters. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
During the State Leadership Conference, students compete to be state winners within their respective business fields and qualify for the national conference. Some events are written tests while others have a performance component where business professionals serve as judges.
Individual results from Solon include: Simon Duster, second place Computer Problem Solving, fourth place Cyber Security; Kyle Eckrich, second place Networking Concepts; Elizabeth Hand, sixth place Public Speaking 2; Lance Martin, first place Introduction to Financial Math; and Simon, Kyle, and Elizabeth placed third in Vocabulary Relay Advanced. These students have now qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference which will be held in Atlanta, Ga., from June 29-July 3.
The Solon chapter was also awarded first place for Largest Percentage of Increase in Local Chapter Membership and third place for Largest Increase in Local Chapter Membership.
Solon FBLA students are currently helping to plan the school-­wide community service day on April 22 and are continuing with a penpal project with two fourth grade classrooms.
