Solon basketball camps offered in June and July
SOLON– Camp Director and head boys basketball coach Jason S. Pershing will be offering three different camp opportunities for the Solon community as well as surrounding communities. The basketball camps will foster a fundamental approach, with a lot of skill development. Each camp will have a guest camp instructor that has competed athletically at the collegiate level as well as professional level. Each camp will be capped at 42 participants, to ensure maximum interaction, individualized attention and instruction.
Grade entering in the fall: elementary second through fifth, middle School sixth through eighth and high school ninth through 12th.
Dusty Wadlington: Head Boys Coach at Kipp Charter H.S. in Denver Colo., George Washington graduate and Hall of Famer, Junior College National Player of the Year Runner Up at Iowa Lakes Community College, graduated from University of Denver leading the Pioneers in steals and assists.
Josh Oglesby: Current University of Iowa basketball player, and helped lead the Hawkeyes to an NCAA tournament bid in 2014. Iowa high school first team all-stater, career 40 percent or higher three-point shooter.
Matt Lesan: Solon’s all-time leading scorer, played at Upper Iowa University. He has played professionally. Matt will be the varsity assistant coach at Solon this winter.
Dedric Ward: George Washington High School graduate and hall of famer finishing his basketball career holding the steals and deflections records, played football at University of Northern Iowa, Ward was a third round pick in the 1997 NFL draft, winning a Super Bowl ring, and finishing an eight-year career in 2004. He has coached for Missouri State, Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs and his alma mater UNI.
Brad Metzger: Played and coached at Indiana Wesleyan University. Head varsity high school boys coach in Indiana for eight years, head coach at Cedar Rapids Washington for four years. In 12 years, four times named Coach of the Year. Two state tournament appearances at Cedar Rapids Washington, one Sweet 16 in Indiana, four conference championships overall.
Session I: June 9 through 12
a) Elementary noon -1:30 p.m.
b) Middle School 1:30 until 3:30 p.m.
c) High School Monday and Wednesday from 4 until 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.
Participant receives camp T-shirt.
Session II: July 8 through 11
a) Elementary 9 until 10:30 a.m.
b) Middle School 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
c) High School 12:30 until 2 p.m.
Participant receives shorts.
Session III: July 14 and 15
a) Elementary 9 until 10:15 a.m.
b) Middle School 10:30a a.m. until noon.
c) High School noon until 1:30 p.m.
Camper receives camp dri-fit.
Cost: Session I=$50, Session II=$50, Session III=$25.
