Solon Nursing Care Center working to improve care through new program

SOLON– Solon Nursing Care Center is one of 40 nursing homes in Iowa signed on to a new Iowa Foundation for Medical Care (IFMC) program to improve care for residents.
This program is designed to improve care through the use of best practices. Solon Nursing Care Center’s commitment to quality improvement is evidence by their willingness to continue working on ways to improve way.
Melissa Reed, Administrator said, “Solon Nursing Care Center has always been committed to quality healthcare, therefore it was important to be one of the selected nursing homes to participate.”
Nursing homes in IFMC’s healthcare-acquired conditions project will contribute to a 40 percent national reduction in Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) rates. Work to reduce HAC rates begins with technical assistance to improve pressure ulcer prevention and reduce physical restraint use in hospital settings. Facilities will receive onside consultation by QIO staff, training in quality improvement skills, evidence-based tools and resources and ongoing education.
Reed continued, “It is always important for healthcare providers to be looking for ways to share and learn from each other’s successes especially when it can lead to improved patient care.”
