Solon Parks & Rec Department

SOCCER REFEREES NEEDED.

Referees must be in at least seventh grade and have either played or refereed soccer previously. Pay is $10/game. Matches are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area soccer fields, with the first matches scheduled for April 10. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL UMPIRES NEEDED.

Referees must be in at least ninth grade and have either played or umpired softball or baseball previously. Pay is $15/game behind the plate; $10 on the bases. Games will be on Monday and Thursday evenings, starting at 6 p.m. at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area diamonds, with the first games scheduled for May 7. Solon Parks and Recreation Board Meeting: the next meeting is Wednesday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Solon City Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

SESSION 5 OF BOOT CAMP!

The session began March 19 and is on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. You can still register for five classes (i.e. half registration). Walk-ins and trial users are welcome for a $10 fee/class. If you decide later to register, your walk-in fee will be applied toward your registration. Classes will be held in Room 601 (Wednesdays) and 405 (Mondays) in the former Solon Middle School on Iowa Street. This 10-class strengthening session is being instructed by Renee Manders and includes a variety of exercises, including resistance training and body weight exercises. Yoga: SESSION 4 OF YOGA!

The session begins April 16 and runs for 10 classes. The classes will be on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. in the auditorium lobby of the former Solon Middle School on Iowa Street. This session is instructed by Carol Daly. More information and registration forms are available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms are also available at City Hall. Zumba: SESSION 3 OF ZUMBA!

This 10-class session begins April 9 and is instructed by Tara Allen on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:15-8:15 p.m. Classes are held in the auditorium of the former Solon Middle School on Iowa Street. ROOKIE BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL REGISTRATION

(i.e. coach pitch for first-second graders, as well as kindergarteners who have played t-ball twice) starts April 6 and lasts until April 27. All first-second grade Solon students should have a registration form in their Friday, April 6, packet. Registration is available online at https://solon-iowa.cogran.com/. More registration forms are available at the Solon Parks and Recreation website or can be picked up at City Hall. Practices are scheduled to start the week of May 7. Games are scheduled to start the week of May 21 and are on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, running for five weeks. Each team plays both Tuesday and Wednesday.

T-BALL REGISTRATION

(for ages 4-6) will begin April 13 and lasts until May 4. To be eligible, players must be 4 years old by May 1. All pre-kindergarten-first grade Solon students should have a registration form in their Friday, April 13, packet. Starting April 13, registration is available online at https://solon-iowa.cogran.com/. More registration forms are available at the Solon Parks and Recreation website or can be picked up at City Hall. Practices are scheduled to start the week of May 14. Games are scheduled to start May 25 and are on Friday evenings, running for five weeks.

T-BALL COACHES MEETING:

Thursday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Solon City Hall.

SWIM LESSONS AT MOUNT VERNON POOL:

The registration period runs from May 4-25. To be eligible, swimmers must be 6 years old by June 1. The registration form will be in the Friday folders for kindergarten-sixth grade Solon students on May 4. It can also be downloaded from the Solon Parks and Recreation website or can be picked up at Solon City Hall. Swim lessons will run the mornings of June 4-8 and 11-15 from 10-10:45 a.m. Swimmers will be picked up by school bus at Lakeview Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. and dropped back off at the elementary school at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Hardship scholarship funding is available for Solon Rec activity registration fees: Thanks to generous donations from local businesses, there is funding available for those that can’t afford all or part of a fee. If there is a need, contact Mike Reeve at 319-594-1978 or mike.reeve@solon-iowa.com.
