Basketball referees needed

Basketball referees are needed for third to sixth grade boys’ basketball.
Applicants need to be high school age or older, and have prior experience in either playing or refereeing basketball. Games will be played on Saturdays in the Lakeview Elementary gym on Jan. 16, 23, 30 and Feb. 6, and 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Referees will be paid $10 per game officiated. Boys basketball

Registration ends on Dec. 11. There will be a coaches meeting in the Solon Parks and Recreation office, the brick building just north of Solon Middle School, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Games will be scheduled for Saturdays in January and February, tentatively starting Jan. 16, in the Lakeview Elementary gymnasium. Registration forms were distributed to Solon students Friday, Nov. 20, and are also available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website.

Session 2 of Yoga

Jenn has agreed to teach another session, 10 classes, of yoga starting Dec. 8. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6-7 p.m., in the Solon Middle School wrestling room. Due to the room being unavailable from Dec. 23 to Jan. 4, the last class in 2015 will be Dec. 22 and the first in 2016 will be Jan. 5. Additional information regarding the program, and the registration form, are on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms, as well as punch cards, are also available at Solon City Hall.

Zumba

This 10-class session started Nov. 17 and is instructed by Becky Donovan on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:15-8:15 p.m. in the Solon Methodist Church Family Life Center gym. Walk-ins are welcome for a $10 fee or an unused punch from a previously purchased punch card.

Boot Camp

Classes began Nov. 24 and are on Tuesday evenings from 6-7 p.m., and some Saturday mornings, Dec. 12 and 19, in the Solon Methodist Church Family Life Center gym. Classes include a variety of exercises, including resistance training and body weight exercises. Your heart rate will be elevated and you will burn a lot of calories if you work hard. Be ready to increase total body strength, improve your cardiovascular state and increase endurance. This 10-class strengthening session is instructed by Lindsay Olson, an ACE-certified health coach who has done personal training at the North Liberty Recreation center. Walk-ins are welcome for a $10 fee or an unused punch from a punch card.

Little Tykes Basketball Camp

First and second grade boys and girls are invited to learn the basic fundamentals of basketball, proper sportsmanship, teamwork and most importantly, have fun. The Saturday morning program will be held at the Lakeview Elementary gym on Feb. 20, 27, and March 5. Starting Jan. 8, registration will be available online at www.solon-iowa.com. Hard copy registration forms will be handed out at school Jan. 8 and will also be available at the Lakeview office, City Hall and the parks and recreation webpage.
