Solon Parks & Rec Department

Girls Basketball: Practice has started. Games are played on Saturdays in November and December, starting Nov. 5, in the Lakeview Elementary gymnasium. The schedule is posted on the Solon Parks and Recreation website.

Basketball referees are needed for 3rd-6th grade girls and/or boys basketball: Applicants need to be in high school or older and have prior experience in either playing or refereeing basketball. Games are be played on Saturdays in the Lakeview Elementary gym (Nov. 5, 12, and 19, Dec. 3, and 10, Jan. 14, 21, and 28, Feb. 4, and 11) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Referees are paid $10/game. Boys Basketball: Registration starts around Nov. 18, with a coaches meeting held during the week before winter break– stay tuned. Games are played on Saturdays in January and February, tentatively starting Jan.13 in the Lakeview Elementary gymnasium. Registration forms will be distributed to Solon students through the school and also available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website.

Zumba: Registration for the second session starts in mid-November. This 10-class session will start in early December and is instructed by Becky Donovan on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Mary Parish Hall. Check the Solon Parks and Recreation website for updated information and registration forms. Registration forms and punch cards will also be available at Solon City Hall.

Boot Camp: Registration starts in mid-November with the session starting in early December. The class is a high-intensity workout improving your athletic capacity and condition, improve glucose metabolism, and improve fat-burning with strength training drills. Running or cross training shoes are recommended. This 10-class strengthening session is instructed by Renee Manders (renee-manders@uiowa.edu). She is ACE certified and teaches the same class at the North Liberty Recreation Center. Classes are on Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 10:15-11:15 a.m. in the basement of St. Mary Parish Hall. Updated information and registration forms will be available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms and punch cards will also be available at Solon City Hall.

The Parks and Recreation board meeting is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Solon City Hall.
