Solon Spartans recognized as Gazette 2019 All-Area players

Cam-Coons Connection, Broghammer and Andregg continue to receive recognition for football performance

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Gazette, a Cedar Rapids-based daily print newspaper and online news source, recognized several Solon Spartan football players as members of its 2019 Gazette All-Area Football Team in a Friday, Dec. 6, publication.
Solon senior quarterback Cam Miller, 6-1, 205 pounds, was recognized as 2019 Gazette All-Area offensive player of the year and quarterback of the 2019 All-Area Football Team for his performance in Solon’s 12-1 season, reaching the 3A final against Western Dubuque with 2,436 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes, and rushing for 840 yards and 12 touchdowns in the 2019 football season.
Spartan wide receiver, senior AJ Coons, 6-4 and 210 pounds, and offensive lineman, senior Michael Broghammer, 6-3 and 245 pounds, were selected for the Gazette’s 2019 All-Area Football Team’s offense. Coons compiled 60 receptions for 961 total yards including 12 touchdowns on offense and defensively collected 12 solo tackles and intercepted one pass returning it for three yards. He handled 12 kick off returns for 210 yards and returned 12 punts for 158 total yards. Broghammer played both ways on the line for Solon and amassed seven solo tackles on defense, including one for a loss, and 18.5 tackle assists.
Solon defensive lineman, senior Jace Andregg, 6-2 and 205 pounds was selected for the Gazette’s 2019 All-Area Football Team’s defense. Andregg recorded 25 solo tackles, including five for loss, and 14.5 tackle assists and recovered one fumble on defense during the 2019 campaign. Offensively, Andregg rushed 51 times for 250 yards, including nine touchdowns. He also accrued 58 receptions amassing 688 yards and nine touchdowns. He returned seven kick offs accumulating 135 yards and returned three punts for a total of 15 yards.

It is distributed throughout northeastern and east-central Iowa formerly called The Cedar Rapids Gazette.
