South Slope presents local non-profits with grants
NORTH LIBERTY– South Slope Cooperative and Iowa Network Services, Inc. (INS) are pleased to announce the following grants have been awarded in our matching grant program.
Grantees included the Optimist Club of North Liberty ($2,000); North Liberty Community Pantry ($2,000) and Jefferson Monroe Friends of Library ($1,600).
The North Liberty Optimist’s initiatives help families meet their basic food needs by working through the Family Resource Centers in local elementary schools. Beyond food, the Family Resource Center provides school supplies and clothing. Their grant will aid programs that offer home visits and assistance to over 75 qualified families in the area.
The North Liberty Community Pantry will use their grant funds to process livestock donations. This will allow the Optimists to add a meat source to the normal pantry fare. The North Liberty Community Pantry works with HACAP, local farmers, and other sources to acquire necessary food supplies to care for North Liberty and surrounding areas.
The Jefferson Monroe Friends of Library grant will benefit the 300 registered patrons of the Swisher area community library. The grant money will be used to provide patrons access to current reading materials and the most up-to-date research tools. The grant will also help cover the cost of software needed for audio and e-books.
For several years, Iowa Network Services and South Slope have offered a charity grant program available to any non-profit organization located in the South Slope service area. Iowa Network Services offers this program to more than 300 communities in Iowa, which includes 144 rural independent telephone companies.
Grant applications are available at www.southslope.com. INS awards range from $250 to $1,500 and up to $1,000 is matched by South Slope. Grants are awarded quarterly and amounts are determined by an independent Charity Grant Committee.
