Spartans jump out to 7-1 start on soccer season
SOLON– The first loss of the season for the Spartans’ varsity soccer team came over the weekend at a Hudson tournament.
Solon fell, 3-1, to host #5 (2A) Hudson after defeating Webster City and Postville.
Added to a 3-2 win over South Tama April 7 at home, and the Spartans are 7-1 on the soccer season.
Sophomore Luke Yetley scored all three goals for the Spartans against the Trojans after a scoreless first period for both squads.
Yetley, junior Isaac Vang and senior Anthony Bullard all scored for Solon in a 3-0 win over Webster City to open the Hudson tournament Saturday. Sophomore Jorel Justus and Vang each had an assist.
The Spartans advanced to face Hudson with a 1-0 (5-4 penalty kicks) win over Postville. Senior Ben Carr, Justus, junior Nick Radcliffe, Vang and Yetley all connected on their free kicks.
Vang scored the lone goal against Hudson in the 3-1 loss.
After facing Marion on the road April 11, Solon hosts two-time defending Class 1A state champion Dyersville Beckman Saturday, April 15. The Spartans welcome West Delaware Thursday, April 20.
