Spartans take it to South Tama
TAMA– Since the loss to Iowa City Regina in the second week of the season, the Solon Spartans have been taking care of business on the football field.
Friday night, the Spartans rolled up a 35-7 halftime lead against South Tama and were able to hang on comfortably for a 42-20 win.
Austin Dall started the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, but Solon only led 14-7 after the first quarter, thanks to an 88-yard kickoff return by Jordan Wymer.
In the second quarter, the Spartans continued to hammer away with the run, scoring three times on the ground. Cody Fritz scored on a 5-yard run, then Andy Klouda from 3 yards out and J.J. Hanus closed out the first half scoring with a 5-yard touchdown scamper.
The Spartans amassed 188 yards on the ground, and rushed the ball 34 times as opposed to eight passing attempts by Hanus. He completed four of those attempts for 56 yards, including the 30-yard touchdown. Colton Dall and Rory Siddell caught the other three.
Fritz led the ground game with 72 yards on 13 carries, while Tim Lance came in to add 52 yards. Klouda finished with 42 yards on only six carries and Hanus had 42 yards on only four carries.
Defensively, the Spartans were able to pressure the South Tama offensive line for six sacks, including two each for Paul Pisarik and Jake Morris. Jay Pike and Wymer led Solon in tackles with eight each. Fritz added an interception and a 23-yard return.
