Summer Reading Program preview

Information will be ready by the middle of May about this year’s Summer Reading Program with a night theme. The Summer Reading Program kick-off party will be on Thursday, May 31, from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Pick up your reading logs and hear about the great fun prizes and programs that the staff is preparing. Reading logs will not be available until the night of the kick-off party.
A special kick-off party for grade five and above will be held on Saturday, June 2, from 6 until 8 p.m. featuring a movie and snacks.

Garage sale registration
Registration is now open for Solon Area Garage Sales, to be held on Saturday, June 2. Registration has already exceeded 25 percent of the maximum number available. Deadline to register is May 28 or when 80 in-town registrations have been received, whichever comes first. Available spots at the library are filling up quickly so, register early if you want to reserve a library spot.
Registration information is available at the library, on the website www.solon.lib.ia.us or by contacting the garage sale coordinator at SolonLibrFriends@aol.com. Registration is done via e-mail. If you do not have e-mail, call the garage sale coordinator at 319-624-2632. Please direct all questions to the garage sale coordinator and not the library staff.
Donations for the library sale need to be received in time for the committee to price things ahead of time. Please leave them at the circulation desk as soon as possible.

Memorial Day weekend book sale
The 22nd annual Memorial Day weekend book sale will be May 26, 27 and 28. Don’t delay in getting your donations delivered to the library. The sorting committee is greatly appreciative for the extra sort time. Approximately 6,000 books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles will be offered for sale with proceeds going to non-budgeted items for the library. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. Monday, May 28, will be clearance prices.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 28, for Memorial Day and reopen at noon on Tuesday, May 29. There will be no Storytime on Tuesday, May 29. Summer library hours begin on Friday, June 1. Just a reminder to students, that even though school will be out for the summer on May 29, the library will not be on summer hours until June 1.

Get a library card now
If your family members do not have library cards, stop at the circulation desk and sign up. There is no charge for a library card. Students participating in the Summer Reading Program will need a library card. Avoid the rush and sign up before the May 31 kick-off party.
A library card at the Solon library provides books, audio books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, puppets and cake pan for check-out and free access in-house to public computers, the daily newspaper and current magazines.
