Talent in abundance for CCA cross country

Robison takes over boys’ program

North Liberty Leader
TIFFIN– It’s a mix of change and consistency for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) cross-country teams this season. Ben Robison has taken the top spot in the boys’ program after a year as an assistant and a year as the middle school coach.
Robison takes over a program fourth in the state qualifying meet last year and returns three seniors and three juniors: Jake Tener (senior), Eric Douglass (senior), Kage Hinricks (senior), Luke Wingert (junior), Ben Oxley (junior) and Wyatt Sedlacek (junior).
Douglass was 24th in the 2014 State Meet and earned All-Conference honors along with Tener.
Freshman Cole Liebe joins the Clipper boys this season.
“The boys’ team has a lot of experience and dedication returning this season,” girls’ coach Jane Astor wrote in a combined preview. “With Tener and Douglass leading the team, things look bright for the Clippers.”
She added the team is practicing well, and, “Good things are bound to occur.”
Astor is in her 25th year with the Clippers and returns four seniors: Kelli Murray, Lori Drake, Kyla Williams and Quynsi Springer.
Murray has earned All-Conference honors.
Three freshmen, Kaylie Barker, Tayler Wolfs and Ally Loren, are new to the squad this year as well.
“The girls’ team has much young and dedicated talent joining the squad,” said Astor. “Add the experience of Murray and Drake and the season looks bright for the female Clippers.”
The key, she said, will be staying healthy and confident.
“This area has awesome talent. We expect Davenport Assumption, Williamsburg and Mount Vernon to be strong for the girls’ teams,” Astor said, looking around at potential challengers.
She predicts Mount Vernon will be a strong competitor for the guys as well.
The season opens Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a meet at Williamsburg, starting at 4:30 p.m. The home meet will be Monday, Sept. 28, at the University of Iowa’s Ashton Cross Country Course, also starting at 4:30 p.m.
Marcy Rahn joins the Clippers this season as a volunteer assistant.
