Tearing down the Fort; CCA 45, Ft. Madison 14

FORT MADISON– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) armada sailed to Fort Madison Friday night and sent the Bulldogs to the pound with a 45-14 non-conference victory.
CCA held a seven point lead after two quarters, but blew it open in the second half while holding Fort Madison scoreless.
The Clippers put a pair of touchdowns on the scoreboard in the first quarter for an early 14-0 lead with Jonathan Nzombo scoring on a 3-yard run and Konrad Moore finding the end zone on a 1-yard quarterback keeper. Niels VanElsas put up the extra point kicks.
In the second, the Bulldogs bit twice, scoring on a 51-yard run off of an interception, and on a 20-yard pass for a touchdown. Tanner Bandy scored for CCA on a 30-yard pass from Moore for a 21-14 lead at the half.
Nzombo scored again in the third with a four-yard run followed by VanElsas’ kick to make it 28-14. Nzombo scored again in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard run with the good kick by VanElsas to make it 35-14. Van Elsas nailed a 32-yard field goal attempt in the quarter, and Nile Rourke scored on a 1-yard run to put the ‘Dogs away for good.
Nzombo was CCA’s leading rusher with 222 yards and three touchdowns. Mitch Stopko carried the mail six times for 26 yards, Tanner Bandy had two carries for 10 yards and Jared Ganschow carried once for seven. Rourke made seven carries for seven yards while quarterback Moore kept the ball three times gaining six yards and one touchdown.
Moore completed 8-18 passes with a pair of interceptions for 117 yards. Rourke completed two out of four attempts for 10 yards. Bandy caught seven passes for 86 yards and one touchdown, Kam Kahler caught one pass for 23 and Zach Anderson made two receptions for 18 yards.
Defensively Miguel Mosaquites had nine tackles total, Aaron Campbell and Stephen Jensen had eight apiece while Kahler and Tyler Kasper had six each. Josh Martinac made five while Aaron Akers and Zach Smith had four total apiece. Bandy and Terran Wagner got in on three each, Ganschow had one un-assisted and one assisted for two on the night while Nzombo and Jacob Aldrich had one each.
The win moves the Clippers to 3-2 on the season ahead of the coming Homecoming Game battle with Central DeWitt on Friday, Sept. 28. The freshmen will kick-off at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
