Terri Irene Nielsen died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in her rural Lisbon home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services were Aug. 20 at the church by Pastor Jim Fields and Chaplain Bill of Hospice of Mercy. Burial was in Jordan’s Grove Cemetery.
Surviving Terri are her husband of 35 years, Steve; her children Elizabeth (Jim) Babka of North Liberty, Steven Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida, Benjamin (Cory) of Palo, Matthew of Mount Vernon, Peter (Ashtyn) of Lisbon and Jacob (Alexis) of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren, Siera, Aiden and Katelynn; two sisters, Mary Beth Carroll and Lori Jones of Virginia; father- and mother-in-law, Ray and Frances Nielsen of Central City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Marie Nielsen; and her father and mother, Frederick “Lefty” and Margaret Mae Sewell Sheible.
Terri was born Sept. 24, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Kirkwood Community College, majoring in childhood education. Terri married Steve Nielsen in Cedar Rapids and the couple settled originally in Central City and later farmed in the Sutliff area. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Lisbon.
She was generous with her time, especially volunteering with Lisbon Sauerkraut Days and working for the Lisbon Early Childhood Care and Education Center.
Terri loved children and the rearing of children and teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
