For those who fought for freedom
NORTH LIBERTY– American Legion Post 1976 recognized Memorial Day with a pair of ceremonies Monday, May 27. With the threat of heavy rain, an abbreviated ceremony was held at Penn Meadows Park near the large American flag followed immediately after by a similar event at the historic Ridgewood Cemetery.
Memorial Day, post commander Rob O’Rear reminded the small crowd, is not about cookouts, boats or car races. It is, he emphasized, a day to remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives so that we may continue to enjoy our freedom. While Veterans Day honors and celebrates all who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces, Memorial Day asks Americans to pause in reflection of those lost in battle.
Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs from North Liberty participated in and assisted with the ceremonies.
