Tiffin fire annual pancake breakfast April 15

TIFFIN– The Tiffin Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders host their annual pancake breakfast Sunday, April 15, from 6 a.m. to noon at the fire station, 221 Main St.
Chief Brian Detert said the department expects to serve around 1,200 people. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, whole hog sausage and cinnamon rolls. There will also be jam from Clear Creek Orchard for sale. No admission fee is required, but a free will donation is accepted.
The Tiffin Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders receive strong support from the City of Tiffin, Union Township and Clear Creek Township. Volunteers, however, through donations and fundraising events, raise nearly 20 percent of the department’s operating budget. Money raised in the past were used to purchase protective safety equipment, medical gear and even fire trucks.
Detert said donated funds from the community make up to 15 percent of the costs for a new addition and significant improvements to the fire station and parking area.
The Tiffin Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders provide services to Union Township, Clear Creek Township and the City of Tiffin. The department accounts for an area consisting of nearly 56 square miles, including 10 miles of the busiest interstate highway in the country. The organization, consisting of 24 members, responded to 241 alarms last year, including fires, medical emergences, hazardous materials incidents, vehicle accidents, storms and floods. The department also provides service to the rest of Johnson County through mutual aid agreements with other emergency agencies.
