Tiffin: get countywide, local emergency notices via phone

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin is adopting an emergency alert system known as the Johnson County Emergency Notification System (JCENS). In the event of an emergency or severe weather conditions, an alert will be sent to the phone number provided by voice, text, email and/or pager.
This is a free service provided by Johnson County; however, normal message fees may apply, so residents are encouraged to check with their individual phone providers. To receive text messages, the cell phone must have text messaging capabilities. Alerts sent from JCENS Alerts will originate from 69310 (text messages) and 319-356-6799 (phone calls). Please be sure to save these to your phone book as JCENS alerts.
The City of Tiffin will provide residents with a form inside their water bill mailings, which may be returned to city hall. City Clerk Ashley Jay will set up participants with the alerts that they choose.
Residents who receive utility bills via email, or are on the city’s eNewsletter contact list, will be sent a link to sign up directly on the Johnson County website.
For those who choose not to sign up for these alerts, Tiffin city officials will continue to use the same method of communication for emergency notifications, including local television and radio news and the city’s web page).
Residents wanting setup assistance or who have questions on how to enroll are encouraged to come into city hall at 300 Railroad St., email ajay@tiffin-iowa.org or call 319-545-2572.
This process should take less than five minutes.
