Trojans earn MVC All-Division honors

IOWA CITY– The Mississippi Valley athletic Conference (MVC) released its 2015 All-Division Baseball selections on Thursday, July 23, with eight Iowa City West High players named to the various teams.
Austin Miller, Izaya Ono-Fullard and Kevin DeLaney were First Team picks in the Valley Division.
Miller, a junior pitcher, compiled an 8-2 record heading into the state tournament in Des Moines with a 2.42 ERA and 46 strikeouts. At the plate, Miller had a .258 batting average with eight hits, including one double.
Ono-Fuller, a sophomore infielder, had a .430 batting average with 58 hits, including 16 doubles, one triple and one home run. He also drove in 38 runs prior to the state tournament. On the mound, Ono-Fullard had a 4-0 record with a 2.28 ERA and 37 strikeouts.
DeLaney, a senior outfielder, was a leading hitter for the Trojans with the rare accomplishment of hitting for the cycle in a Class 4A substate game against Ottumwa where he nailed a single, a double, a triple and a home run in perfect sequence. DeLaney had a .479 batting average with 67 hits including a dozen doubles, two triples and a trio of homers. He also had 33 RBI to his credit.
Tanner Lohaus was the sole Trojan named to the Second Team in the division. A junior pitcher, he compiled a 7-2 record with a 3.28 ERA and 57 strikeouts. At the plate, Lohaus had 27 hits and a .278 batting average. He knocked four doubles and brought in 20 runners.
Honorable Mention went to sophomore Oliver Martin and junior Spencer Wiskus.
Martin had a .320 batting average with 40 hits, including nine doubles, one triple and a pair of homeruns with 29 RBI.
Wiskus, the catcher, hit with .316 average for 36 hits including nine doubles, one triple and a pair of homers. Wiskus also brought in 27 runners.
Seniors John Millmeyer and Shane Sturtz were named to the division’s All-Academic Team. Millmeyer had one hit in three at-bats and a pair of RBI with a .333 batting average. Sturtz had a .269 average with 18 hits, including a pair of doubles with nine RBI.
West tied with Cedar Rapids Jefferson for the division championship with 20-6 conference records. Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Linn-Mar tied for third at 17-9 with Cedar Falls (15-11), Dubuque Wahlert (12-14) and Dubuque Senior (11-15) rounding out the division.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Zach Daniels was named the Division Athlete of the Year.
Kennedy’s Kyle Rodenkirk and staff were named the Division Coach of the Year.
