Trojans fall to the Little Hawks

Bowling season opens with The Battle for the King and Queen Pins

IOWA CITY– Iowa City West High and Iowa City, City High opened the 2019-20 bowling season with the annual crosstown rivalry match on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Colonial Lanes in Iowa City. The Trojans and Little Hawks battle each year for the King and Queen Pins, and this year City High prevailed as its varsity boys and varsity girls defeated the Trojans.
City High’s varsity boys won 2,398 to 2, 215, with the Little Hawks’ Nile Franz winning with 408. West’s Ryan Bys (from Liberty High) led the Trojans with 372. Stirlen Roberson (from Clear Creek Amana) was seventh with 285, and Cameron McKnight (from Liberty) was ninth with 242.
The Trojan junior varsity (JV) won 1,611 to 1,328 with West’s Joshua Thomas winning with 242.
City’s varsity girls defeated the Women of Troy 2,287 to 1,945, with City’s Shaylin Brown winning with 350. West’s Kylie Rohm led the Women of Troy with 329, and Lauren Strauser (from Liberty) was sixth with 268. The Little Hawks’ JV squad won 1,576 to 1,464 with West’s Jackson Whitehead (bowling for City due to a lack of bowlers at the JV level) winning with 233. Liberty’s Garrett Roggy (also on West’s team, but bowling for City) was second with 232 while Christopher Nair (another Trojan bowling for City) was eighth with 188 while West’s Maxwell Whitehead (from CCA) was ninth with 161.
West High will travel to Lancer Lanes (3203 6th St. SW, Cedar Rapids) on Friday, Dec. 6, to take on Cedar Rapids Washington at 4 p.m. and return home to Colonial Lanes (2253 Old Hwy. 218 S., Iowa City) on Friday, Dec. 13, to face Cedar Rapids Prairie at 3:15 p.m.
