Trojans no trouble for Clipper boys

CCA 59, South Tama 39

TIFFIN– A 20-point first quarter gave the Clear Creek Amana Clippers clear sailing to a WaMaC conference win Friday, Dec. 18, at home as the South Tama Trojans were sunk, 59-39. Cal Miller and Jake Neubauer each sank a 3-pointer in the first period, with Miller also scoring on a steal and easy layup. Late in the period, Evan Downes swiped the ball and took off down court for two of his eight points.
At the half, the Clippers led 36-18. CCA kept up the assault in the third quarter with a 14-point barrage. While the Trojans scored 11 in the period, the Clippers kept the lead and entered the final period ahead, 50-29. Three-pointers from Miller and Neubauer kept the Trojans at bay despite a late scoring run from the visitors.
Miller and Neubauer both led CCA with 13 points each and were the only Clippers in double-digits. South Tama’s Gabe Schields led everybody with a game-high 16 points.
The win follows back-to-back losses to Center Point-Urbana (72-55) and Vinton-Shellsburg (52-50) and put the Clippers back to .500 at 3-3 overall.
The Clippers are home on Tuesday, Jan. 5, against Central Clinton-DeWitt as well as on Friday, Jan, 8, against Williamsburg. Both varsity games are set for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
